There is a true food revolution going on in Amsterdam! My eyes spy new food trendsand I want to share this with you. The second in this trilogy is about you, me & good food.
Because I write about food, I also talk a lot about food. I ask what people’s perceptions are of food. I notice that many of my family & friends are busy w/ eating good food, trying to do good & not wasting so much.
So what do we call good food? We try to eat organic veggies, more fish, less (red) meat, more nuts and fruits. We want to eat the healthiest food there is, preferably organic & not a bunch of E-numbers! Although according to the latest publication of Stanford University it doesn’t matter whether you eat organic food or not.
Still we want to eat the healthiest food there is. Therefore some of us become vegetarian, others just cut down on certain less healthy ingredients. The other day I realised that my boyfriend and I eat two or three meatless dinners a week: totally unaware of being partly vegetarian! So not only on Monday, Paul.. I know I am not the only one doing this!
When we don’t want to cook healthy dishes, we want to be able to buy healthy food (no preserved meals). Nowadays a lot of new delis in Amsterdam offer healthy food & cook seasonal dishes for a reasonable price. Delis like Vinnies Deli, Vijzel Amsterdam and FoodWare get their products from local farmers (less transportation of food). Trendwatcher Lidewij Edelkoort talked about it on the tv show ‘Zomergasten’: we go back to basic – making more use of the local food production instead of the global food industry. Lets act local & lets be proud of handcrafted products made by specialists like the sausage of Brandt & Levie.
STORY154 is against throwawayism*! I make sure that no ingredients are thrown away. I reuse it into another dish like a salad. We are all creative w/ food, so why waste it? I want to give you an advise: buy a Bento-box, throw your leftovers in it, add some matching ingredients & you have a healthy lunch!
Next I write about FOOD FESTIVALS in Amsterdam. And read my first blog about FOOD TRENDS here >
Did you notice something food wise? I am curious to know! Mail me at Michelle@STORY154.com.
