As a regular reader you know that every Tuesday STORY154 has a 10 Best list in store for you! This week Anna Holtkamp tells us about her 10 favorite restaurants! She is owner of Kessens on the Rozengracht together with husband and chef Casper Holtkamp. The 10 best spots in Amsterdam to eat burgers, very healthy, to take away food, the newest restaurants or the 10 favorites of certain chefs.
Bistrot Neuf on the Haarlemmerstraat is a very small restaurant that is famous for its French cuisine. Actually it’s not a restaurant and not a bar but a French bistrot bar-a-vin. Or an eetcafe as Dutch would say, enoteca/trattoria as the Italian would say or a tapas bar for the Spanish among us. Either way, good food with delicious wines!
Gebroeders Niemeijer is not a restaurant, but a traditional French bakery in Amsterdam. All the breads and sweets are homemade. And once you step into this world of these delicious scents, you can have a French break, lunch or high tea! Get sucked into this spot with truly magnificent stuff..
Restaurant Fa. Speijkervet in Amsterdam West is one of the restaurants in Amsterdam that’s entirely focused on meat. Not for vegetarians ;) They buy one entire animal and use everything of it: From head to tail and make all kinds of dishes of all the parts of the body. A very good initiative!
What you didn’t know is that Anna is originally from Stockholm, Sweden. She has put down some awesome restaurant tips for you! So if you ever go to Stockholm, make sure to take this list with you:
Och Himlen Därtill is a beautiful sky bar with a magnificent view over Stockholm. It is situated in the Southern district of Stockholm in the Södermalm area. They have really good (and expensive) cocktails, next to fine dining!
Köttbaren has an New York styled bar and restaurant. It’s all about meat (sorry vegetarians) and even the staff walks around in butcher coats!
Townhouse Nosh & Chow has a beautiful interior and garden, and very good food of course! This spot in Stockholm is one of our favorite restaurants because you can watch people while you enjoy the surroundings.
Östermals Saluhall is an indoor food market like the Spanish indoor markets and bit like De Foodhallen in Amsterdam. Enjoy the yummy bites and drinks, or take ’em home!
Restaurant Berns actually has two restaurants (and a hotel plus a club!): Berns Asiatiska with only Asian dishes and tastes and Berns Bistro & Bar with a French cuisine and they only serve you French classics like moules frites, steak tartare and boeuf bourguignon. Sounds très bonne to me!
Only Open In Summer
Utecompagniet is only open in summer! It’s an open venue in the middle of the Stureplan square. Best spot for people watching with cocktails or wine and some of their delicious dishes like the foccacias, burrata mozarella, salads or a tasty sliders.
Josefine has a super big terrace and a luxury bar. This spot opens from 1st of May and has a magnificent view over the city from the island Djurgården in Stockholm. A great hang out in summer with your friends, some drinks and a DJ!
