[post_content] => After Trouw closed, a lot of clubbers lost their favorite hideout. On the other hand we also had to say goodbye to the great restaurant Trouw. But now we have Restaurant DS
, started by the same founders of TrouwAmsterdam. And I can tell you, this restaurant will make you very happy as well. As was also the case in the restaurant Trouw, here in DS vegetables play the leading role on the menu.
Entourage is key
As you may know Restaurant DS stands for ‘De School’. This restaurant is situated in an old school building in Amsterdam- West. And this makes the atmosphere all the more interesting.. The wooden chairs make you feel like you are in the classroom again. This is all contrasted with the white linen on the tables, the natural warm candlelight and outside light beaming through the huge windows. The feeling is industrial, warm and reminds you of your old days at school.
This mixture of classy and yet industrial simplicity continues in the handling of the waiters. They’re elegantly dressed and can tell you anything about the wines and menu, yet they do this in a laidback manner. This is translated in the guy casually leaning against the wall while explaining the wine menu, I love it!
Let's talk food
OK the food that is what it is all about! We had the 5-course dinner. I was still in my vegetarian challenge month. So I was almost drooling on the plate of my dinner date the whole evening ;). They change their menu every week. This week the entrée was white and green asparagus grilled on the barbecue with roasted mustard seed and green curry sauce. A dish that tastes like summer! The second course consisted of different kinds of roasted onions with red basil, goat cheese, sourdough crumble and foam of mushrooms. The soft taste of the roasted onions combined well with the strong flavors of the goat cheese. The third dish was a artichoke heart with maggi leaf, grated celery and I had to miss the codfish.. The main course was baby corn, cauliflower and on the other side of the table a perfectly cooked duck breast. The wine fitted perfectly with the dishes and every bite was a party of such different flavors who danced so well together. The dessert was a pineapple pie with sorbet ice-cream, gingersnap and in your mouth melting coconut. The extra dessert was a real winner for me. The combination of basil ice-cream and strawberries together with white beer foam. Perfect sweet and bitter mix.
You can have a 3 course dinner for €35, 5 for €42 and 7 courses for €49. I recommend you book a table in time, because it is a very popular place nowadays. And I understand why, I would highly recommend you experience this restaurant. And maybe after dinner check out the club too.. At least I did ;)
