Food Festivals in Amsterdam

There is a true food revolution going on in Amsterdam! My eyes spy new food trends in the city and I want to share this with you. The third in the food trend row is about food festivals in Amsterdam.

The first of all foodie festivals was a street food edition: the New Food Fair in 1999. The Haarlemmerdijk & -straat are filled w/ stands of restaurants & culinary stores every year. The two streets are blocked for traffic & filled w/ drinks, treats & long dinner tables.

The Rollende Keukens (since 2008) is every year at Westerpark during Pentecost weekend. The variety of dishes is huge: sate, chicken, pork, wraps, smoothies, quiches, pies, Dutch poffertjes, spring rolls and so on. This culinary feast w/ a great atmosphere is the creation of Mister Kitchen. After our holiday to Indonesia, we were treated w/ a weekend of food, fun & sun! We look forward to the next edition (starting on May 9th, 2013).

Another famous foodie event is Taste of Amsterdam. They started their gastronomic success in 2009 w/ topchefs of Caffé Toscanini, The Butcher, Fifteen, Momo, Blauw, BarRestaurant, Bridges & The Harbour Club cooking small signature dishes at the Amstelpark. Here I discovered the amazing (truffle) products of Massimo!

More and more eating festivities are organized: what’s not to like? Eating w/ friends & having fun.. Some of the smaller events like The Worst Day by Brandt & Levie (see the amazing video below) and Oktoberfest – The Currywurst Edition at Amsterdam Roest were a great success!
Lotte Wouters started The Food Line Up in 2012. She & her rolling kitchens make it possible that besides partying hard on dance festivals, you can also enjoy some good food.

On a more regular base (3rd or 4th Sunday of the month), you can visit the Neighbourfood Market for good food in Westside. Next weekend you can enjoy the inspirational MEESTERLIJK – CITY OF DESIGN at the Westergas. It is a mix of design, food, fashion, art & crafts.

Next year, I will make you a summer calendar w/ all the foodie festivals on it..
