Restaurant De Belhamel

Restaurant De Belhamel is a small restaurant situated on an amazing location in the city centre of Amsterdam where the Brouwersgracht crosses the Herengracht. I think it’s one of the best locations in Amsterdam! This special spot even has a bench alongside the canal, so take place when the weather allows it and take a look at the many boats that pass by.

When entering De Belhamel, you will see the secluded bar first. It reminds me of the old movie theatre Tuschinski (one you must visit!) because they both have a gorgeous art nouveau setting. You’re almost going back in time! Enjoy the entourage and have a drink… or two!

De BelhamelMy suggestion is to ask the friendly staff for a table near the window: you will enjoy an amazing view over the Herengracht… while eating delicious food! One of the best combinations in life.
I enjoyed the sautéed prawn and scallop with puff pastry and a chive-shrimps beurre blanc as a starter. This dish was absolutely delicious! As a main dish I had the ‘Boeuf Belhamel’ which was a sliced tender sirloin with fresh spinach, very tasty grilled King boletus (small mushrooms), very soft potatoes with a Cognac-tarragon sauce.

The French cuisine at De Belhamel is very good. The price you pay for it starts from €32 for a two course dinner and €45 for a three course dinner. I thought the starter and the main course were very tasteful and absolutely delicious while the grande dessert was also good but less impressive. Next time, no dessert for me!

There definitely will be a next time at Restaurant De Belhamel! This is one restaurant to remember..

Greetings from Arizona! You are so right about the Jordaan location. I have stayed just steps down the street at various apartments rented by Frederic Rent a Bike when I visit my son in Amsterdam. We have eaten at Belhamel on two trips and all line it very much. My son worked for 3 years as a chef in high end restaurants and is now teaching English there. I found your website when looking for food trucks in Amsterdam.
