From KFC To Rotisserie

The humble bird is going haute: From KFC to rotisserie! No fried chicken take away shops but cool urban with brick walls rotisseries (yes, plural!). Yes, the single-item restaurants are having a bit of a moment. Just when we thought that food trucks were having their moment, it is actually the chicken that is taking over the gastronomy in Amsterdam. Wherever we look in the city, new rotisseries are opening!

From Fastfood to Slowfood

You can find more and more single-item restaurants in Amsterdam: From MEATBALLS to FRITES UIT ZUYD, from ice cream to the plain old pizza place. Actually the one-trick ponies in Amsterdam focus mainly on hamburgers, meatballs, fries, ice cream or pasta. And now on chicken as well!

This trend has set in a few years ago in New York.
So know we got ourselves into a New York state of mind!

From KFC to rotisserie means that an ingredient used in fastfood – in this case chicken – has been transformed to a haute cuisine by preparing it slowly turning it around continuously on a long narrow piece of metal called a spit. The quality of the ingredients is very important in this slowfood cuisine!

Hotspots
There are a few spots that already introduced the humble bird: RIJSEL, DE BIERTUIN and DE BIERFABRIEK. At STORY154 we see the rotating chicken trend growing as 3 new humble bird hotspots opened in the last few months: VAN ‘T SPIT, ROTISSERIE AMSTERDAM and THE GOOD CHICKEN SOCIETY.

We can make this post very long by talking about the interior of these rotisseries. To keep it short and simple: They are like the barbers among the hairdressers. Back to basics, authentic and rough.
