Lion Noir

Sometimes you don’t need a reason to go out for dinner and then LION NOIR is always a good idea! This hidden gem in the Reguliersdwarsstraat is surrounded by man love. But this one is not for men only!

The interior
The eclectic ambiance is cosy, charming and authentic. Why haven’t I visited this spot before? Who knows! We started off with some Aperol Spritz in the cocktail area downstairs. Then upstairs where the white tablecloths and silver cutlery stood out against the beautiful greenish walls and other natural colours of the interior.

The food
They work with shifts at LION NOIR (at 6pm or 9pm), so that’s something to pay attention to. First our table was ours till 9.30 pm, lucky us the people after us cancelled so we enjoyed LION NOIR all night long: Oysters and Gruner Veltliner as an amuse, then sautéed scallop with pumpkin, serrano ham and a lemongrass beurre blanc. A well executed dish with ingredients that combined really good: the sweet pumpkin with the salty serrano ham and soft scallop. But the best dish of the evening was the pike-perch sautéed on the skin with truffle gnocchi, purslane, lobster wonton and a lobster sauce. This main was so tasty: the gnocchi were fresh and tender with the taste of truffle coupled with the lobster sauce which was extremely soft with that bisque taste to it. You can wake me up for this dish!

The night – not evening – ended in the cocktail lounge with more gintonics and a French kiss. Ever tasted that one? Your mouth tingles all over! It’s a cocktail and you should try it…
