Rijks is the restaurant of the prettiest and biggest museum in Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum. The museum tells you the story about The Netherlands and their recently opened restaurant tells you the same story, but this is a culinary one. It’s the Rijksmuseum on your plate!
The Building
The monumental building from the year 1800 was recently renovated and closed from 2003 till 2013. Now the museum is open and so is the restaurant that’s run by executive chef Joris Bijdendijk. You are welcome here to enjoy the museum of course and sip on a cup of coffee, lunch or some wine and bite before or after your visit to the museum.

The Food
The menu and its ingredients is based on The Netherlands. For example Bols jenever in the Rijks cocktail, a Dutch Mojito with Van Wees (also a Dutch liquor brand) or the typical Dutch seafood. Besides this you also see a lot of influences from foreign countries, far away and more nearby. A few dishes on the menu that are an example of this are the Indonesian Gado Gado and the Chinese/ Indonesian Bapao. The used ingredients are high-quality locally sourced ingredients.
This restaurant is a true gem for Amsterdam, especially with the perfect ambiance and Bijdendijk running the kitchen. The Rijksmuseum on your plate, if that doesn’t sound really good?
