The name says it all: this foodspot serves food without meat. But I happen to love meat. Do you? During my pregnancy I noticed how much I adore it: typical Dutch ossenworst, well-known croquettes from Holtkamp, steaks at Loetje and what more.
Yes, this place exists without serving any meat. Owners Cil and Cathalijne’s vision on eating vegetarian is why they started Meatless District! They do use a couple of meat replacers in some of the dishes like in the oh so yummy Caesar salad made with fried soy, the croquettes from the Vegetarische Slager (vegetarian butcher) and the MD Burger.
During the week Meatless District is open for lunch and dinner. Their menu is small but good. Five sandwiches sweet and savoury. The Summer Sandwich looks like a winner or go for a warm lunch with the homemade falafel. The ‘It’s a wrap’ doesn’t attract me so much. But you really should try the Caesar salad (it’s my thing lately). The Rainbow salad wasn’t that special, just a bunch of veggies which tasted just fine. This one could use a bit more challenge.
In the weekend MD serves breakfast with scrambled eggs, a fruit bowl with coconut yoghurt, homemade scones and smashed avocado on toast. It all sounds delicious! Plus a healthy juice on the side. And Agroposta lemonade for the little ones!
Eating meatless doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy oneself! Meatless District has tasty beers and wines, bites. So it’s a really suitable spot to enjoy a wine or two on their terrace in the sun, accompanied by some yummy bites.
Meatless District is the new kid in town! A wonderfully decorated interior is the basis for Cil and Cathalijne’s beautiful bar and kitchen. Who says you cannot enjoy a meal without meat? I sure do! Especially at MD.
