Most of the time you buy a food product because you love the taste of it, right? Like chocolate.. You think! I noticed that I’ve bought a variety of chocolate bar (s) for their packaging: Beautiful prints and designs caught my eye and I MUST buy them. Experience the same?
To attract children, all you have to do is use wrappers in all sorts of garish colors include some iconic characters and the idea of chocolate alone will draw them in. To draw in adults is a different story! We like the wrappers to have a sense of distinction. Distinction for what? To Instagram it, to give your friends a piece of good dark choc to go with that quality cappuccino and to receive compliments on your taste of design. Yes that. And just because I love beautiful packaging for me, not for anyone else. Recognise it? Uh oh..
Brands like Stach, UrbanCacao, Van der Burgh Chocolaad (local brands), Tony Chocolonely with their typographic wrappers, Ocelot chocolate (via De Bijenkorf and Love Stories) and UK brand Mast Brothers Chocolates all have chocolate wrappers with extremely beautiful designed prints. But if you look beyond the borders of The Netherlands and the UK, you see so many lovely prints on chocolate wrappers. Look at the examples I’ve mentioned below!
The elegance of the packaging is a huge marketing strategy for chocolate makers. Where it previously was all about soft coloring and simple not sexy designs, you now see a lot of graphic designs with beautiful color palets. A lot of them differentiate flavors by colors. So if you’re setting up a chocolate bar brand just now, you cannot ignore this trend!
